Curology Review

Hello!
I hope you all are having a great summer. The weather in the Bay Area has been pretty hot, but I'm surviving the heat. Since I have some time, I wanted to put together a post that I think will be helpful for those of you who suffer from acne. A little back story about my experience with acne. I have been battling with acne for a long time now, and I'm always on the hunt for acne treatments. I've had acne since middle school, and I would always go to the doctors and ask how I could get rid of my acne. I was prescribes a number of medications ranging from creams to pills, but they weren't able to treat my acne. My acne was the worst when I was in high school. I would get them on my face, chest, back, and shoulder. Luckily, it's not as bad now, I'm not sure if it's because of my hormones or if it's because I've been using a lot more products made specifically for acne. I can put together my skincare routine for acne if you guys are interested. I still get bad breakouts here and there, but not as bad as when I was in high school. I find that I usually breakout most when I'm stressed or I'm on my period. Anyways, I first discovered Curology two years ago, but was skeptical about it. I watched reviews of it on Youtube, and heard good things about it from many bloggers and youtubers. After doing a bit of research and reading more reviews on it, I decided to give it a try at the beginning of last year, and have been using it up till now. Upon testing it for a year now, I wanted to give my honest review on Curology. I hope you guys enjoy this post. This post is not sponsored.

About Curology
Before getting into the review, I  wanted to give a little background information on the product   and the company. Curology is a company that creates personalized acne treatment formulas for   their clients. They are subscription based and starts at $19.95/month. They also offer you a   free trial so you can test out the product before making a commitment to it which I think is   awesome. When you create an account, they give you a short quiz in order to determine which   formula is  best for you. You will be assigned a dermatologist that puts together your formula   and will answer any questions you may have. The company was founded by Dr. Lortscher, and   wanted to make acne care accessible to everyone, and built an online team where they could   care for people remotely while also providing the same care as one would receive in person.

     My Formula
When I created my account, I took a quiz to determine which formula was best for me. My skin   type is oily, so they put together a formula that would suit my skin needs. The quiz was super   easy and convenient. After I finished taking the quiz, I was assigned a dermatologist who would   work with me to answer any questions or concerns. Although, I personally haven't utilized that   feature, I think it's great to know that there is someone who can help when you need it. They   also create a little dashboard that contains details of your treatment plan and short   descriptions of each ingredient which I thought was really helpful. My Curology formula   contained tretinoin 0.009%, clindamycin  1%, and azelaic acid 9%.

Using Curology - Pros and Cons
I have been using Curology for almost over a year now, and my overall experience with it has   been great, and after checking the results after a couples months of using it, I did see   improvements on my skin. I was getting less breakouts and my overall complexion was getting   better. During my time using Curology, I found that if I used the product every single day, it   tends to be less effective. I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone, but for me, I noticed that when I used it everyday, it wouldn't be as effective as when I first started if that makes sense. Maybe it's because my skin gets used to the formula and therefore it doesn't have as much of an effect, so I have limited my use of Curology to 2-3x a week at night. Overall, I think Curology does a great job in treating acne, especially at their price point. As with everything, there are always pros and cons, so I wanted to get into more details on what I liked and not liked as much about Curology.
The Pros
  • Cost effective
  • Quality Ingredients
  • No Harsh Scents
  • Cute Packaging
The Cons
  • Slight skin irritation - I'm not sure if everyone who uses Curology experiences the same thing, but when I use Curology, I would sometimes feel a sting/slight itch around my lower cheek area. However, it only lasts for around 3-5 mins.

My Overall Thoughts + Skincare Routine

Overall, I think Curology is a great product and it works on my skin. I have noticed a difference in my skin texture and the overall complexion. I have also been getting less breakouts since using Curology. Other than the fact that my skin gets a bit irritated when using the product, the pros far outweigh the cons. I would recommend this to anyone who has been struggling with acne for a long time and has tested every product they could find. If you guys are interested in trying it out, but still a little skeptical about it, they offer a free trial. The price for Curology is affordable and with the results that I got while using this product, I think it's a good investment. The subscription makes it convenient for anyone who is always on the go. Before end this review, I wanted to talk a little about my skin care routine while using Curology. This is only my night routine as I only use Curology at night before I sleep. This skincare routine is only for nights that I use Curology, my usual night time skin care routine is a bit more extensive. I can go into more details on my skincare routine on a separate post if you guys are interested.

1. Remove all makeup using wipes or whatever product you prefer to remove makeup.

2. Cleanse your face. I prefer using gel based cleansers.

3. Apply toner

4. Apply moisturizer

5. Apply Curology

Thanks for reading my review on Curology and I hope that you guys find it helpful. If you guys would like me to do more product reviews, please let me know. I am currently working on another blog post which will be up by next week. Hope you all have a wonderful day! :)
